ABOUT

I’m a copywriter who writes scripts that think cinematically. After a decade behind the camera directing visual stories, I learned that great ads aren't written, they're built like coats of paint on a car: shot by shot, beat by beat, with the edit already in mind. That production instinct now lives in my copy. My scripts land on a director's desk ready to shoot, not ready to interpret. Spec work has been called "production-ready" by industry ECDs. Sundance Institute readers praised my screenwriting for its "clear and specific" world-building and "exciting visual storytelling." I write for brands that want to say something worth watching.

EXPERIENCE

COPYWRITER / SCREENWRITER FREELANCE 2023 – Present

Writing scripts for video ads and branded content that translate brand strategy into visual storytelling. Developing spec campaigns pairing cultural icons with major brands, with work recognized as production-ready by Executive Creative Directors.

KEY PROJECTS

  • Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: I created an 8-minute fundraising film for their Dallas gala one month before the event, restructuring the traditional script format. I left out voiceover and narration on the film to let authentic family voices lead. The gala exceeded its fundraising target, contributing to the foundation's $135.6 million revenue for the year; Mark Cuban called the film "eye-opening. This work led directly to the American Heart Association engagement for their 5K run promotional film.

  • MIZIZI #DiasporaDiaries: I pitched and directed a 4-episode documentary mini-series for a heritage apparel brand's Black History Month campaign, identifying four community members whose stories connected heritage to the present day. A queer African makeup artist, a Jamaican creative, an Afro-Latina singer, and a plus-size African-American model. The series launched across their website, YouTube, and Instagram, positioning the MIZIZI brand as a cultural storyteller, earning attention through genuine storytelling rather than borrowing significance from a calendar date.

  • American Heart Association: Following the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation gala, I created a promotional film for their Dallas 5K run, utilizing the same authentic storytelling approach that drove the CF Foundation's success. The film performed well across their social channels.

    SPEC

  • Amazon × Mariah Carey Holiday Spot: Developed a :60 holiday concept pairing Jack Black and Mariah Carey that keeps Santa's magic alive while casting Amazon as parents' trusted co-conspirator for stress-free Christmas. I built out a world with cinematic details, including Buddy the Elf cameo, knowing exactly how each scene would cut and how comedy would land on screen. It’s the centerpiece of my portfolio, demonstrating A-list talent in writing and cultural moment strategy.

  • VISA × Tyler, the Creator "Follow the Money": A spec campaign addressing Black community wealth circulation, where a dollar circulates for only 6 hours compared to 17+ days in other communities, told through the journey of a single $20 bill. I paired Tyler's authentic voice on ownership with director Ramell Ross's "sentient camera" technique, building character arcs for each person the bill touches. DeChazier Pykel, Executive Creative Director at Contender Labs, praised the script as ready to go straight into production.

    SCREENWRITING

  • Developing feature screenplays, psychological dramas with suspense elements, building worlds from scratch, and modulating voice for specific audiences. Submitted to Sundance Institute screenwriting program, where reader Kimberly Barrante wrote: "The world and tone are clear and specific. The visual storytelling is exciting, and it is clear why it should be on screen. It is fresh and compelling." This training is why spec work reads like it's ready to shoot, not like words waiting for a director to figure out.
